Jordi Cabot

Jordi is an FNR Pearl Chair and head of the Software Engineering RDI Unit at the ITIS department of the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST). Jordi is also an Affiliate Professor in CS at the University of Luxembourg. Previously, Jordi had been an ICREA Research Professor at Internet Interdisciplinary Institute, the Research center of the Open University of Catalonia (UOC) where Jordi led the SOM Research Lab.
Jordi's research falls into the broad area of systems and software engineering, especially promoting the rigorous use of software models in all software tasks while keeping an eye on the most unpredictable element in any project, the people involved in it. Current research topics include pragmatic formal verification techniques, analysis of open source communities, open data exploitation and the role AI can play in software development (and vice versa). Jean-Sebastien SOTTET

Jean-Sébastien is studying how model-driven approaches can be applied to no-code data-centric applications. BESSER models could be the entry point to design data model used in those applications. Indeed, the current existing no-code approaches (a preliminary study can be found at https://doi.org/10.1109/MODELS-C59198.2023.00138) are actually not offering all the modelling features that BESSER, through BUML, is able to provide (e.g., those tools lack of clear and simple implementation of bidirectional relations).

Jean-Sébastien also focuses on modelling framework flexibility, notably relaxing the conformance relation between metamodel and model. Such flexibility, allows expressing a form of uncertainty, the trade-off made when linking to other models or discovering data structures. This should be associated with mechanisms to relax and enforce conformance according to the situation, ultimately allowing for creating a metamodel element from a given (prototypical) model instance.

Pierre BRIMONT

Pierre is studying the Local Digital Twins software architecture. He focuses on how to extend current data-driven platforms to become model-driven ones, relying, for example, on BUML.

Ivan David ALFONSO DIAZ

Iván has contributed to the BESSER project since its inception, both in the definition and development of the framework. His focus lies primarily in the Low-code realm, where he has made contributions to B-UML development, code generators, and various other aspects of MDE.

Iván is Posdoctoral Researcher at the ITIS department of the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST). He got his PhD in December 2022 in co-tutelle between the Universidad de los Andes (Uniandes, Colombia) and the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC, Barcelona). His research activity is focused on the dynamic realm of software engineering, with a specialized interest in Model Driven Engineering (MDE), low-modeling and low-code methodologies, self-adaptive systems, and the intricate landscape of Internet of Things (IoT).

Marcos GOMEZ VAZQUEZ

Marcos is a Software Engineer at LIST-ITIS. He works on the BESSER Bot Framework, the BESSER module for bot and chatbot development. He also worked as a research engineer at the Open University of Catalonia in the topic of automatic generation of chatbots from massive data sources, applied to Open Data portals. He completed his studies in Barcelona, Spain (MSc in Data Science & BSc in Computer Science). His research interests fall in the intersection of Data Science, Software Engineering & AI.

Aaron CONRARDY

Aaron mainly participates in the development of the Besser-Bot-Framework and the BESSER low-code platform, taking advantage of his existing experience in MDE-based bot creation.

His research interests lie in a combination of HCI, information systems and learning technologies, and the usage of methods such as MDE to streamline the process of creating various applications. In the advent of the recent democratization of AI tools, he is particularly interested in enhancing existing tools and methods using AI.

Faima Abbasi

Faima is a PhD Fellow at LIST. Her main focus is on expanding the capabilities of BESSER framework to support the creation of Digital Twins Definition Language (DTDL), including the identification of semantic drift in heterogenous models. Her main research interests are Network science, Data Mining and Machine Learning.

Atefeh Nirumand

Atefeh is focused on expanding the capabilities of the BESSER framework to support the creation of mobile applications, including the development of graphical user interfaces for mobile apps. Her research interests revolve around Model-Driven Software Engineering (MDSE), Model-Driven Reverse Engineering (MDRE), software analysis, software testing, and software security, with a specific emphasis on Android application security analysis.

Armen Sulejmani

Armen extends BESSER with REST API capabilities, both to create models from a REST API and to automatically generate REST APIs for the systems modeled with BESSER, adding to the preliminary SQL, streamlit, and django generators.

Adem AIT-MIMOUNE FONOLLA

I'm a first-year PhD student at the SnT-University of Luxembourg. Before, I have been a research assistant for three years at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC), where I have been working on software engineering topics such as empirical analysis, modelling, mining software repositories or data analysis. Daniele Pagani

Daniele Pagani is Lead Partnership Officer at LIST and is responsible for the dissemination, valorisation and technology transfer of the BESSER project. Prior to joining LIST, Daniele held a diverse range of positions in both public and private sectors, including roles as digital transformation lead at SIGI (a public organization delivering digital services to the Luxembourg municipalities), Chief Information Officer (CIO) at ArcelorMittal, co-founder of two start-up companies, principal at A.T.Kearney, partner at Ernst&Young Consulting, researcher at the Rank Xerox Research Centre, visiting professor at Milan Polytechnic and University of Padova.

Mauro DALLE LUCCA TOSI

Mauro is a Research Engineer at LIST, specialized in data-driven machine learning solutions and systems. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Luxembourg, where his research focused on training deep learning models in real-time from data streams. Prior to his doctoral studies, Mauro earned his M.Sc. from the University of Campinas in Brazil, where he conducted research on knowledge graphs for scientific literature analysis.
